Despite the growing importance of these shared spaces to people
everywhere, powerful politicians are working to convert public property
to private profit.
Here’s what’s at risk:
- Our best program for creating and protecting outdoor spaces—The
Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)—is expiring on September 30,
2018. If Congress does not reauthorize it, iconic places like Zion
National Park and the Appalachian Trail will be at risk of reckless
development. - President Trump ignored the will of Americans everywhere by
cutting two million acres from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante
National Monuments—and now, eight more national monuments could be
irrevocably changed. - State legislation is looking to expand drilling, mining, and logging on public land—closing them off to the public.
If these attacks continue to escalate, our special outdoor places that we know and love could be ruined forever.
